DO NOT REPLY EITHER WAY – THIS IS A SCAM

This is another spam text message in the same vein as the Debt Settlement Order Unsolicited Text Message that I wrote about in January earlier this year.

I received this a few days ago from 07581497874 / +447581497874.

You will almost certainly have a different number. Feel free to post it below, and follow the instructions below for reporting.

And here is it:

Are you looking for aloan up to 15k. No guarantor. Same day payout. Bad Credit OK. Completely online. Visit www.getaloanfast.co.uk To opt-out reply stop

Searching around there are other variants:

Your loan has been approved for up to 15K  No guarantor. Same day payout. Bad Credit OK. Completely online.

This is the first text where the name of the company (Getaloanfast.co.uk) are featured. I have deliberately not linked to their website but you can, of course visit at your own leisure through the wonders of copy/paste. Monsters wont emerge forth from your monitor and destroy the universe. No physical harm will become you, however I really wouldn’t bother. I was going to include a screenshot, but there’s a sneaky copyright at the bottom, so i thought I’d play it safe.

Let’s look carefully at the APR. Apparently, the ‘typical’ rate is 17.9%. The word ‘typical’ is particularly valid here. Essentialliy, it means that they would expect to give 66% (nearly two-thirds) of their customers a loan at that rate. Here are a couple of links with more details on ‘Typical APR’ if you are interested:

But this advertised rate is very misleading, because when you go through the loan application process you are not actually offered a loan from GetALoanFast.co.uk at all. So, you can kiss goodbye to that 17.9% right away!

In fact, the parent company that underpins this operation does its best obfuscate its actual identity and actual interest rate until the very last stage in the process. And even then you are left a little unsure. Let’s have a look at this:

What Happens When You ‘Apply’?

So, let’s take an imaginary customer, Dr William T Conqueror, who wants to take out a 15K loan as they suggest. William, 35, is married, and is super-rich. He has a house valued at ten-million pounds with no mortgage and a monthly income of one million pounds. He has an impeccable credit history and wants the loan over sixty months for some home improvements.

We’re forced to enter a phone number, so I use the one above (i.e. the one that supposedly sent me the message in the first place). We go through the screens to get a quote. We are happily informed:

We are now matching your details with over 251 lenders to find you the best quotation possible, this will only take a few seconds……

251 companies? Wow! And then:

Loan Found

Great news, one of our approved partners has found you a loan.

This can all be done online and to save you time we have already pre-populated your details to their online portal ready for completion.

Horay! So we are taken to the next page, and we’re not on the GetALoanFast.co.uk site anymore. Instead we are at ‘loanfinder.co.uk’. So, GetALoanFast may offer 17.9% APR, but it doesn’t appear possible to obtain a loan from them at all.

Rather than the originally touted 251 companies, we now appear to have ‘searched’ through 292! And what is the APR the ‘selected’ company is offering  our  zero-risk multi-millionaire doctor and lord of the manor?

53.9 %APR Representative

53.9%!!! According to Guardian Newspaper Loan Repayment Calculator, over 60 months we would end up paying back £28,544.10 . That’s nearly double!

So, what of LoanFinder.co.uk? Well, they are a bit hard to pin down:

  • It uses GetALoanFast.co.uk as a front to make it appear that if offers a 17.9% APR
  • Loanfinder is a trading name of Post Net Ltd
  • Loanfinder is part of the Richmond Group of companies

Eh? So who are they then? It could be one of four different companies!

I would consider any company are willing to resort to spamming thousands of phones in order to drum up business, to be of extremely questionable and dubious repute. By seemingly attempting to ‘cloak’ their identity, they reduce my opinion of their rectitude yet further.

I would rather gnaw my own arm off then get a loan with this company.

And then I look even further. When searching in Google for LoanFinder.co.uk scam I get a whopping 36,000 results. Top of a list is an entire site dedicated to this – Loanfinderukscam.co.uk. Take a look further. The author is of now doubt that this is a scamming operation, although, does publish a response from them on HubPages.com.

Spam is widely regarded as being unethical. The methods by which the spam text message reaches your phone is cloaked in deceit and trickery (see my article Telephony Leads and Debt Management Companies – How It Works) and the cumulative cost to the spam recipients is greater than the cost to the spammer themself.

Consider the following other products that are marketing by spam, that we have become more hardened to:

  • Viagra
  • Diet Pills
  • Other pharmaceuticals
  • Fake College Degrees

Most people wouldn’t dream of paying these items even a second glance, so why not treat EVERY company that does this the same way, regardless of the medium (Email, Text Messages, Telephone Calls, Post, etc).

Are You a Victim?

Screenchannel Television is making a new series about debt and loans and are looking for people to share their experiences. If have been a victim of this scam, or have even considered responding and are interested in taking part, then you can read more in this article.

    Hello,

First of all let me say I think it’s excellent that you’ve turned this into a little project and your dedication into the research is warming :)

I stumbled across this website because I too have been receiving those annoying messages and I just by chance decided to google the contents of the text message to verify whether the text messages are chargable and was surprised to discover just how many other people are receiving them!

So after reading your piece, I decided to do a little ‘detective’ work and have located the person who appears to be (at this stage) responsible for this scam.

I don’t feel that posting his name on this forum is the most responsible thing to do in the event that this isn’t 100% correct, but since you, James, are in IT (I’m a systems engineer) I would expect you to have some familarity with DNS tools so I would encourage you to check this out for yourself. It’s quite interesting and exciting at the same time!

I ran a whois on the domain name getaloanfast.co.uk and it returned the individuals full name and address details.

The address is a home address located in Manchester so I did a little digging around on the internet for that individuals name and respective location and have seen him posting on a website affiliates4u.com requesting both secured and unsecured ‘Loan Leads’, which could very possibly be the root of the spam text messages.

    Posted on 19-11-09:

“I am looking for loan leads both secured and unsecured. Please PM me with your offers.

Also interested in loan declines, must have email address and telephone number.”

Loan declines? Hm, sounds to me like ‘text STOP to opt out’ – What do you think? o.O

His initial request for leads was in November 2009, then the domain getaloanfast.co.uk was registered the following Feburary of 2010, so the timing would certainly seem to match up.

The man, stupidly listed his mobile number and his e-mail address. Now his e-mail address is of the domain name secure-that-loan.co.uk, so in order to verify that I have indeed got the same person, and there doesn’t just happen to be two Mr PL’s in Manchester, I ran a whois on the domain name listed as his e-mail address, and it matched the SAME home address which was used to register getaloanfast.co.uk

If you would like I can send you the details via e-mail, just reply to my e-mail address and I’ll be happy to – however it doesn’t take long to dig up the dirt on this scum-bag and you may find it very satisfying to do it yourself.. Whatever works :)

    Peace out,
    Emma

  5. silkshake @ 2011-03-29 16:01

    Hello,

I would also like to add that during my research it’d appear that the person responsible for Getaloanfast.co.uk is not necessarily officially part of the Post Net Ltd group, due to the differences in domain name registration – they could very well be making a generous commnission but not necessarily be on their payroll.

The reason why I believe this is because, usually when a registered company registers a domain name, the IT dept will do so under a common group name – As we can see by Loanfinder, they’re registered to Post Net Ltd, whereby GetaLoanFast is registered to an individual with their home address listed. Not savvy!

    Peace,
    Emma

i just got txt from 07581497850
your loan has been approved or up yo 15k no guarantor same day payout. bad credit ok. completely online.

is it safe to reply stop???

  8. @sharon macdonald: It won’t cost you money, but it’ll probably mean you get more spam messages. Just delete it and ignore it. Report it to you network provider. Its spam, and likely to be a scam, so warn your friends, family and colleagues, tell them to delete it and ignore it too – facebook it if you have an account.

  9. yes today the number is +447866976027, of course i googled geta loan fast complaints and found your site many thanks

  10. Danielle M @ 2011-04-27 14:29

Hi guys, I just recently was accepted for a loan from poundstopocket.com. i am 19 years old and have a steady income and a non-existant credit history. theres no upront fees and i had my loan within 2 days if i remember right. its worth a go if your desperate. I received 800 pounds and pay back 122 pounds a month for 11 months.

I’ve been conned out of money by plenty of scam companys so I’m only trying to help. I applied to this one by a fluke and then I had the money.

    Good luck

    Danielle M. Xx

  11. @Danielle M – So, you borrow 800, pay back 800+542! That’s 67.75% over 11 months, or 74% over 12.

74% Interest rate a year! Scandalous!

  23. Hi Laly, I’ve recently been searching for a loan and have come across one called Wentworth Direct Finance. I haven’t commited yet so I don’t know the full story but they’re offering loans at 22% over 24 months. They’re also asking for a brokers fee of £69.00.
I may just take the plunge on payday.
All the best to you, hope you find what you’re looking for.

    Tony.

  24. scam number 07557 287194

  25. thankyou everyone i was just about to try them for a loan you have saved me from alot of heartache,i am young too and am trying to get a loan for a car to get to my first job after college, does anyone have any ideas as where to look or a reliable loan company that doesnt charge a fortune in interest because i am not a home owner?

  26. I’ve had the same, be warned, last year we moved house and found ourselves in financial difficulties, thought a loan would help, applied through loan finder, they took £69 from my account and told me I’d been approved for £3000, they were so confident that the transferred £300 into my account whilst we waited for the paperwork, which never arrived, the £300 they paid in was from a payday loan company, payday uk, I had to pay back £375, plus loanfinder had taken £69 from my account, we were in a worse off situation, this company is a complete scam and pray on people when they’re most vulnerable, I am now taking legal action

  27. Anonymous @ 2011-05-31 19:45

  28. Anonymous @ 2011-05-31 19:49

I think someone should send texts to peoples phones, informing them that this is happening and any other scams similar. that would stop it.

  37. Looking at this web site have why is James Wiseman advertising the loan companies via pay per click on the top of his web site!!!!

Is this is a way of get high ranking on google and then making money on the pay per click on this site?
Does this make him as bad as every one else???

[From James Wiseman: Carl - I've posted a response to your concerns above.]

  38. @Carl: The ads are context sensitive not just to the site content, but based on a visitors previous search patterns.

I make just enough from the adverts to cover the running of the site.

Only about 10 of 160+ the articles cover this topic, and there is a large area of my site dedicated to pictures an photos that also feature ads.

I have done substantial research and posts surrounding this topic, so it has not just been a case of ‘throwing a few pages up’ to generate money.

The blog has also been featured in the national press and is widely regarded as something that helps people.

You’ll note also that I have chosen to public your comments (I could quite easily have deleted them).

However, please accept my sincere apologies if the adverts have offended your sensibilities.

    Regards,
    James

  61. I got taken in by a loans company .they contacted me by phone, i was naive enough to give them my credit card details which they said they needed to verify my identity. went online the next day to check my credit card and the sons of bitches had taken £99 out of my account,i was straight onto my account explaining that they had fraudlently taken this money. I was sent a letter to fill in, within two weeks my money was back in my account. your best chance of getting a lawful unsecured loan is by looking in your local paper. good luck to all of you. I know how frustrating it is to put your trust in someone only to be taken for a ride.

i was asked to go to go to a paypoint with £58 send it to a number they would give me when i got there and once they recieved it my money would be in my account within 10 mins , when i didnt go i got 5 calls within 8 mins. off them they tried again the next day at the same time 7 missed calls on my phone and again they tried 1 week later (same time ) 5 missed calls, they sounded Chinese they knew my name how much i applied for and my bank , so be carefull x the number that came up on my phone 052642494, of course they might be honest but i have never known any company what cash sent via paypoint

  78. I get annoyed with these text messages. their problem is though, I have lots of spare time.
I found the person who owns these sites & numbers and I have ALL his personal details.
I have spent the last 4 days, signing up for EVERY single bit of free marketing products and junk mail, using his name and home address.
Lets hope he enjoys the thousands of spam emails/junk mail & porn related material he will shortly be recieving daily through his front door.

  80. i too have been recieving txts for the last couple of months. mostly from; jump2payday.com and the no they used is +44759716963, fridayloans.co.uk from no.+447547625262, advanceplus.co.uk from no. +447922569354 and ukapprovialsite.co.uk and that no was +447891332725. i am looking for a small loan but after reading the posts i will be really careful who i choose to do buisness with! has anyone got any knowledge of a good lending site who dosent take loads of interest???

  81. ive had 148 tex messages saying that they can get me a loan ive not asked for one so i,ve now blocked them all

  82. All good information, we have unwittingly just paid £59.99 to a broker and got nothing but offers of 53 percent APR loans when they promised us the money in the bank today at a rate of 7.5 per cent… Has anyone got any idea where we can officially report these scammers to? i.e. trading standards etc…? they are preying on vulnerable people and scamming them out of hard earned money for nothing. There must be an official body around somewhere to report them to surely?

  83. leelee100 @ 2011-08-31 15:49

  94. I have just got in from work, left my phone at home, when i picked it up I had 72 missed phone calls from PLfinder, plus 26 txts in the space of 4 hours. Never had anything to do with these dont even know how they got my number. Also several from CDF who ever these are. And to tell you the truth im totally p…ed of with it.

Dont know what to do surely this is borderline harrassment, just received another 6txts while writing this.

  95. Today I got this:

Your loan has been approved for up to 15k. No guarantor. Same day payout. Completely online. http://www.quote4meonlineuk.co.uk. To opt-out reply stop

    From: +447974548923 / 07974548923

It’s a first for me, but I got suspicious with the ‘extra’ uk before the .co.uk – what reputable company needs to do that?

  96. Received 3 texts in less than a day from +447791779594. I only had the Vodafone account for 10 days and despite having a corporate number with Vodafone for 10 years+ i’ve never got a spam message on it. I called Vodafone yesterday and they said there is nothing they can do – however my suspicions are that Vodafone are selling the numbers to the spammers (given my corp. phone has never been targeted!)

    The text message is:
Your loan has been approved fo up to 15k. No guarantor. Same day payout. Completely online. www. quote4meonlineuk .co .uk

Been scammed by plfinder loans, they took processing fee of 69.50 out of my bank account without my authority.

  98. raymond broderick @ 2011-12-09 18:48

i applied for one of these loans and when asked for my bank details i gave them details of a pre-paid account with no money in which i paid ten pound for from off of the internet so that i could give it to any of these dodgy loan companys incase by some miracle that they actually were legit and so that it gives them the idea that they are about to get some cash by ripping me off but all the time im taking them for mugs and wasting theyre time as theres never any money in the account so they keep trying to deduct money from me but never succseed and so they call me back and i just keep letting them think im aboard and tell them i will sort wot must be a problem with my bank and they start rubbing theyre hands again but never get anywhere,i myself like to think im wasting theyre time as they have done to me and lots of other people and its amazing how they always stay in contact thinking that im going to pay them when ive no intention in ever doing so,if they was legit then they would have gave up a long time ago and i dont recieve any costs from my bank as its pre-paid so they can try all they want to withdraw money

  99. received a message today from +447770895868 DONT TRUST!

  102. i have been conded by the lot off them can anybody recomend a loan company that does not have up front feesor grantors thank you

  103. JOHN HANWELL @ 2012-02-10 15:24

IVE BEEN TOLD LOAN APPROVED THEN THEY GET ALL MY BANK AND CARD DETAILS. THEN THEY SAY THEY CANT DO ANYTHING FOR AT THIS TIME. CAN THEY STILL TAKE MONEY FROM MY BANK. IM DISABLE AND I FEEL VERRY LET DOWN BY THESE PEOPLE.

  104. I too have been scammed over the last couple of weeks! A company trading as welcome loans ltd has taken a processing fee of £70.00 from my account saying that i had been accepted for a loan of £5000.00. I wasn’t too wary once i had received the documents as they all seemed legitimate, so i signed and returned them and gave them my bank details. They debitted the money from my account over two weeks ago now and they will not reply to any of my e-mails and their phone line just says “contact us through our web page rather than sit in a queue!” then it cuts off.

Since then I have been getting all kinds of text messages and e-mails from various lenders (mainly plfinder) saying they can offer me a loan.

This site has been invaluable to me as I received a phone call from Wentworth today saying they could offer me the loan I am looking for. Not wanting to make the same mistake twice I asked for her to send me the paperwork first for me to check through. Wentworth will now give me a call back at the end of the month to see if I wish to go ahead with this. I am so happy I stumbled across this website as I will now be telling them where to stick their loan!! I would rather struggle than line the pockets of these disrespectful people with not a single moral bone in their body. Its not surprising the world is like it is today with fraudulant people like these around.

    Lou.

  105. thank god saw this site. I have been trying to get loan & have already been ripped off by Elephant Loans, keep getting mad calls from someone claimimg to be from UK Loans ringing me from abroad & asking me to transfer money via pay point before they will transfer my money! He could hardly speak english & I told him I knew it was a con he still rings me upto 3 times a day!!!!
Is there any genuine loan companies that can help out? I work full time have ok credit but no garentor , it not fair!! no one will help us poor people out!

  106. I received a text message from Katie at PLF (07742616370), and as I had received a letter from welcoem loans, I assumed the texts were genuine.
So I went online, and was filling in my details, and then when it got to entering my card details, I just had this awful feeling that I will be parting with £50 for nothing.
So I decided to close the page, and check online at scams, and found you. I am so glad I listened to my instincts and not enter my card details.
Then within the hour I have received another Text from Mark at FLM (07860004427), this time I ignored it.
And now I have received another text from CFD asking me to call 08000927550, again I have ignored it.

After reading all of the above, I have forwarded all the scam texts to 7726 and I will enjoy cutting off and deleting everyone of these feeble scum trying to take my well earned money from my childrens mouths.
I will also try my best to locate the source of each number, and their address, and go on a rampage online using their details for every bit of junk mail and rubbish I can find.
The good thing is I have a computer programmer and internet expert living with me, so I can get more than enough information on them to destroy them…

Thanks for saving my life and my money.
    Amanda Xx
